At The 100 Year Lifestyle we have long said that life is about doing what you love, and to enjoy all things in moderation. That’s the same philosophy that sisters, 100-year-old Verla and 102-year-old Dorthy have lived by their whole lives. In their case, they have been enjoying many of the same pastimes and hobbies their entire lives, including a daily cocktail. While the quantity never changes, the happy hour sometimes starts a little early because, as they say, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. That flexibility has also proven to be part of their strategy.

We  can joke, but the fact is, these sisters have led long, interesting lives, and show no sign of slowing down. Verla still volunteers at a local hospital and has lunch each week with her church’s ladies group, while Dorthy is a regular at her local YMCA. They both live alone, drive, and take care of themselves. Each of them outlived two husbands – each of whom were younger than they were. They are living proof that regardless of your age your life can be active and interesting. You can get older without getting old.

Active independence is something we all want as we age, and we can have with the right lifestyle choices. 100 Year Lifestyle choices will keep you on track to living 100:100, 100% for 100 years, or more, like Verla and Dorthy.

Aside from a daily cocktail and everything in moderation, what else do Dorthy and Verla think is key to health and longevity? Get your favorite beverage, a comfortable seat, and keep reading. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.
